The CHAKE DE! girl Preeti Sabarwal, played by actress Sagarika Ghatge is taking a leap into Punjabi films with DIL DARIYAAN. However, this doesn’t mean she is shifting base to Pollywood! According to Sagarika, DIL DARIYAAN has an amazing script and her character is also well etched out and that is what induced her to take up the role.
Says Sagarika, “I am not shifting to Punjabi Films. Moreover, it’s a great time to be part of other regional cinema, as its growing rapidly. You don’t get such scripts and characters to play regularly. DIL DARIYAAN was not to be missed. I am very happy to get this chance.”
Interestingly, Sagarika plays a ‘loud’ & bindass character in DIL DARIYAAN.
“DIL DARIYAAN is fully based in Punjab and a very rooted film. It’s a love story. I am playing a Punjabi village girl. My character is very real and people will of course relate with it. She is a full on phataka and loud yet has vulnerability. She doesn’t have any qualms in saying anything openly and doesn’t care speaking out her mind,” says the actress.
When asked if her role is on the lines of ‘Geet’ (from JAB WE MET essayed by Kareena Kapoor), Sagarika said, “I wouldn’t like to compare it with Geet from JAB WE MET. Yes that’s true Kareena’s character was also <i>bindass</i> but I play a pind girl, who has grown up in village. While Kareena’s character was little modern.”
Sagarika, who is not really comfortable speaking Punjabi and quite distinct from her character in DIL DARIYAAN, took the workshop for 15-days to get the lingo, body language right, to learn the histrionics of the character.
Sagarika will be paired opposite Punjabi singer and actor Jassi Gill in her debut. The film is directed by Pankaj Batra. On Bollywood front, she has just wrapped-up JP Dutta’s JEE BHAR KE JEE LEE.
