Dibakar Banerjee has managed to keep the mystery around his next detective drama, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy intact. But, now a video that surfaced on YouTube has let the cat out of the bag. The two-and-half-minute long video captures Sushant Singh Rajput, donning the same cloak that Byomkesh’s nemesis is seen wearing in the trailer. The clip also captures Sushant acting out a scene where he is seen murdering someone, which testifies that Sushant is indeed the mystery man behind that cloak.
While the spoiler video must have marred the anticipation among the audiences, director Dibakar Banerjee has remained unfazed. Rather he promises to surprise the audience with DBB. “I have been told that the video reveals the identity. But it does not matter because Byomkesh is not about whodunit, it’s about howdunit and whydunit. Just that video itself won’t take anything from the audience and I challenge the world to see it and even then, you won’t know a bit about my film. I am not going to hide it. Go and see it. You cannot predict anything about the film. You will still be surprised,” Dibakar clarified adding that we should still ‘Expect the Unexpected’- the catchphrase that the whole mystery is built upon.
Previously, too, the climax of Aamir Khan’s Talaash was spread all over the internet a day before its release and the film had suffered a setback. Ask Dibakar about the same and he assures, “There cannot be any spoilers. Whatever people will think, the film is beyond that. There is a reason why I am being so brazen about the situation and you will get to know that when you watch the film.” Dibakar, who recently organised a trial of his film, is mighty pleased with the reactions. “Basically, the film ends on a note where it will keep the audience waiting for the next one in the series. We are definitely planning to make Byomkesh a franchise and everyone came out of the trial, biting their nails in anticipation of what will happen next. My next film will start off from where I left in DBB,” he concludes.
