Mumbai: Kangana Ranaut, who has won the National Award for her performance in Queen (2014), surprisingly says she didn’t “enjoy the moment” as much, due to “irresponsible journalism”. A report quoted her as saying she “was supposed to get all the awards” that Priyanka Chopra won for Mary Kom (2014), and that she knew about them beforehand.
“The question was something else but when it was put out in public, it was joined with a different analogy in some other context,” says Kangana, adding, “I have no words to describe how distressed and disturbed I have been since that statement came out.”
The actor immediately tried to make amends by calling Priyanka, who is currently in the US. “She didn’t answer because of the time difference, and I couldn’t sleep all night. When she called back, I explained everything, and she just laughed it off. She’s my friend and knows me better than any journalist,” says Kangana, explaining that it takes a “lot of nurturing, care and effort to maintain a healthy equation” in the industry.
Kangana says she is a fan of Priyanka’s work, and has even told her about this. She adds, “I have the highest regard for Priyanka’s talent. Nothing has changed between us.”
Priyanka also clarified her stance, tweeting, “I hate losing. But if I had to take a back seat to anyone this year it would be U #KanganaRanaut! Congratulations! Yay. Queen! #SmallTownGirls (sic).”
