Mangalore, Feb 4: Veerarani Abbakka Awards 2014-15, instituted by the Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samithi, Ullal will be conferred on research scholar and feminist Dr Gayatri V Navada and senior writer Sheela K Shetty Ermal at Government PU College premises, Kurnadu in Mudipu of Bantwal taluk on February 18.
Speaking at the press meet on Feb 3, Monday, Reception Committee President J Jayaram Shetty said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will confer award on the achievers during the valedictory of the two day Veerarani Abbakka Utsava 2014. The award will comprise of Rs 20,000 cash prizes and a citation.
District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai, Health Minister UT Khader, Nitte University pro-chancellor Dr Shantharam Shetty and other dignitaries will participate in the event.
Office bearers of the Abbakka Utsava Committee including Honorary Vice President Sadananda Bangera and Working President Dinaker Ullal were present at the press meet.
Dr Gayatri Navada is a recipient of two Ph.D degrees and has served as Research Scholar at the Regional Study Centre for Performing Arts in Udupi. Some of her and literary works including ‘Mookajji Baduku Sahitya, ‘Chittara Bareda Baduku’ and ‘Muddanana Ramashwamedham’ has won appreciation.
Sheela K Shetty has been serving as President of Federation of Udupi Taluk Mahila Mandali from 18 years. Apart from being a Yakshagana artiste, she is also an organizer. She has presented number of shows in Akashavani and Doordarshan and across the state.
