Kundapur; Dec 19: Condemning the lethargic attitude of municipality by allowing unauthorized construction of commercial buildings on encroached roads by the owners of the commercial complexes from Sangam area on NH 66 that connects Kumudapura municipality main road on Chikkan saal, which connects market place, members of Nagarika hitarakshana (public welfare vedhike) staged a protest in front of municipality.
Members on the stage, who came through Chikkan saal road from sangam area in procession, stormed into the municipality building and urged the authorities to stop illegal constructions. Protestors alleged that owner of the commercial complex, which started in the beginning on Chikkan saal road by reducing the width of ancient drainage, converted the area into parking facilities by laying interlocks. As a result of this, daily running pedestrians and vehicles had to face lot of problems. Though these matters have been brought to the notice of municipality, the authorities, who have already bowed to the lobby of builders, have not taken any action in this regard.
Thereafrer, two months ago they started the work of additional roads to the building illegally by encroaching the road. Awakened citizen prevented the work and not allowed to continue and brought the matter to the attention of municipality. Again on December 14, they continued their illegal work in the night. The municipality which was supposed to stop the work, which was started again, didn’t even bother to stop it and completely ignored it but because of the awakened citizens, the work was stopped now.
At least from now onwards municipality authorities without bowing to the pressure of building owner’s lobby, by stopping the unauthorized constructions, make the way for smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians. Failing which in the coming day’s fierce struggle will take place, protestors warned.

Then memorandum was submitted to revenue authority. After receiving the memorandum, only when authorities assured that appropriate measures will be taken, protestors have withdrawn their protest.
