Puttur, December 10: The District 5th additional sessions court in Puttur has convicted Fernard Monteiro of culpable homicide not amounting to murder on Wednesday, December 9th.
According to the case details, Fernard Monteiro, a resident of Kapinabagilu had brought home pork on June 6th – 2013 and asked his wife Rosalina Lobo to cook it. Rosalina said that she would prepare it once the work of heating the water for bath is over. Fernard, who grew angry at her for delaying to cook meat, took a sickle and injured her on her head. When Rosalina managed to snatch the sickle and threw it outside the house, Fernard poured kerosene on her and attempted to burn her. Rosalina who was injured in the incident was admitted to hospital in Mangaluru. She expired on June 11th– 2013.
Uppinangadi police arrested Fernard on July 11th– 2013 and later a charge sheet was filed by the then circle inspector of rural police station Suresh Kumar.
The sessions court judge passed a verdict that Fernard was responsible for the death of his wife Rosalina Lobo. The court decided that it was a culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on December 10th.
