Kasargod, October 26: In connection to the daylight burglary that took place recently in Kudlu Seva Sahakari Bank, the police arrested two accused who went absconding including the prime accused. Police recovered 7.6 kgs gold jewellery, cash Rs Five lakhs and a car from their possession.
Addressing a press meet, Kasargod District SP Dr S Srinivas said, the main accused in the case Mujeeb (27), resident of Chowki in Kasargod and Joman Felix (30), from Fort Cochin in Ernakulam have been arrested and with this the number of arrests made in this case has risen to seven, he informed.
Total of 17.5 kg gold was stolen from the bank. In connection to this robbery, the master mind behind the robbery- Sharif from Pacchambala in Bandyodu was arrested and 7.150 kgs of gold was recovered. Now, 7.6 kgs of gold is recovered and a total of 15.750 kgs of gold has been recovered by the investigation team, he said.
Accused Mujeeb had been arrested on Saturday from Bovikkanna in Mulleria, and as per his revelations, the police team conducted investigations and arrested Joman Felix who was being treated for Malaria fever at a hospital in Coimbatore. In addition, the gold that was hidden in a house in Virajpet of Coorg district has been recovered, he informed.
Daylight burglary had taken place at Kudlu Seva Sahakari Bank on September 7th. After threatening the bank staffs and the customers, the burglars had fled with gold and cash.
Luxurious house and car purchased:
Although within 20 days, the police had arrested five accused including the master mind behind the burglary, the main accused Mujeeb had remained elusive who was arrested after 49 days.
After committing the crime, he had absconded in Karnataka, Tamilnadu and various places. Acting on reliable information that Mujeeb is travelling in a car towards Kasargod on Saturday, the police arrested him from near Mulleria.
Out of the stolen gold, Mujeeb and Felix had sold some quantity and had purchased a luxurious house at Virajpet in Coorg district and had hidden the rest of the gold in that house. In addition, they had also purchased a luxurious car.
It is said, Mujeeb and Felix came close after they began dealing with ganja trade. They came to know each other in Mangaluru and continued their friendship even while committing crimes, it is learnt.
