Mangaluru, October 19: Following the arrests of four persons in relation to the murder of Prashanth Poojary, the district BJP announced on Monday October 19th that the protest planned on Tuesday October 20th has been withdrawn.
Flower vendor and Bajrang Dal activist Prashant Poojary was murdered in Moodbidri on the morning of October 9th by a gang of six persons who came in three bikes. The BJP had given a deadline of October 19th to the police to arrest the accused and had also called for a protest on October 20th. After the police commissioner S Murugan announced the arrest of four persons in relation to the murder case on Sunday October 18th, the BJP has now decided to withdraw the protest.
BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak addressing a press meet at the BJP office here, said, the DK district BJP had scheduled a protest on October 20th against the murder of Prashant Poojary. Before October 19th, the Mangaluru police have arrested the prime accused. Hence it has been decided to temporarily withdraw the protest. This decision was taken as per the request of the police commissioner through the media and also after consulting BJP state leaders.
We congratulate the city police for their efforts to arrest the four accused. We also request the police to make a detailed probe into the murder case and arrest the other accused, and initiate stringent action against the anti-social elements, he said.
