Kundapur, September 25: A minor girl has been impregnated by a fifty five year old man who had also threatened the girl of life. This incident has come to light lately and complaint has been registered against the accused in Shankaranarayana police station. This incident took place at Kalakali in Yademoge in Kundapur taluk.
Accused Mahesh Shetty (55) has been arrested by cops.
It is said, Mahesh Shetty stays in the neighbourhood where the 16-year old minor girl lives. The girl’s father had expired sometime ago due to heart attack. Later she lived with her mom, brother and sister. She was studying in tenth standard, it is learnt.
The accused man in the pretext of speaking to the girl’s family used to pay frequent visits to her house. In the month of May, the accused had visited the minor girl’s house when the girl was alone and had raped her. He had threatened the girl of her life if she revealed it to anyone. The minor girl frightened by this kept the matter in dark and currently she is 4- months pregnant. The girl revealed the matter when the mother questioned the girl after changes were noticed in her body. A complaint was filed later against accused Mahesh Shetty in Shankaranarayana police station.
Based on the complaint, police arrested the accused under the directions of Kundapur circle inspector Diwakara P M.
It is said the accused is from Hassan who had migrated to Udupi some years ago in search of work. Later he had engaged in quarry work around Yedamoge. Mahesh Shetty is married and father of two children.
Shankaranarayana police registered a case under POCSO act and presented the accused in the court.
Mahesh Shetty has been detained under judicial custody.
