New Delhi: A Delhi court today said environmentalist RK Pachauri, who has been accused of sexual harassment, cannot be arrested till Thursday, when his petition for bail will be taken up.
Mr Pachauri’s defence lawyer, while briefing the media, said, “There are medical grounds as well as reasons based on the merits of the case for which we have moved the court with a bail application.”
Mr Pachauri, chairman of the Nobel prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has been accused of sexually harassing a woman employee at The Energy Research Institute or TERI, the think tank he heads. The woman, who is a research analyst, has reportedly submitted text messages, e-mail and WhatsApp messages from Mr Pachauri as evidence.
The 74-year-old activist’s defence lawyer said, “There are medical grounds as well as reasons based on the merits of the case for which we have moved for bail.”
Mr Pachauri, a leading voice on the dangers of climate change, has denied the allegations and has claimed that he is a victim of computer hacking. Last week, he pulled out of a four-day meeting of IPCC in Nairobi.
