Rockhampton: A 21-year-old man has told a Queensland court that he “messed up” when he stabbed his mother with a samurai sword.

Horace Lorenzo Jones has pleaded not guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to murdering Roxane Gilbert at their Gladstone home in June 2012.

Gilbert’s body was dumped in her own car and found the next day in bushland.

She had been stabbed more than 30 times with a blunt samurai sword and a knife.

Jones took the witness stand on Thursday and today has been cross-examined by prosecutor Todd Fuller.

Jones told the court he stabbed his mother with his samurai sword after she slashed him on the arm with a knife.

Under questioning from Mr Fuller, Jones said his mother had disrespected him by calling police about his drug use, telling his friends to leave, hanging up when his friends called and abusing them.

Jones told the court he “messed up” and had not called police because he was scared.

He also admitted he lied during a police interview.

The trial continues.
