The accused, Raju Khan, had even given the victims fake visas and offer letters and had rented an office to lend legitimacy to his racket

The Pydhonie police are hunting for an accused who duped more then 30 people to the tune of Rs 24 lakh on the pretext of getting them jobs overseas.

According to police officials, the absconder has been identified as Raju Khan, who had even rented an office in Masjid Bunder to lend legitimacy to his racket. An officer from Pydhonie police station said, “So far, 32 people have lodged a complaint against Khan for amounts totalling Rs 24 lakh.

We are expecting more people to step forward. Primary investigations have revealed that the accused had been renting the office for the past two-and-a-half months and had been in touch with the victims since then.”

Khan reeled his victims in by using newspaper advertisements as well as flyers pasted across the South Mumbai area. Cops said that Khan had even handed the victims fake visas and offer letters from companies abroad.

“The complainants, who had not bothered to cross-check with the companies, were under the impression that they had got jobs in places like the United Kingdom and Dubai, and were even packing their bags.

They figured out something was amiss only when Khan stopped answering their calls,” added the officer. When they showed up at Khan’s office and found that it had been locked for sometime, they lodged complaints with the Pydhonie police.

Khan has been booked under Sections 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code and several teams have been formed to hunt for him.
