Tulu-Kannadiga Gopal Shetty created history with huge margin of votes

MUMBAI: Sitting MLA Gopal Shetty of BJP won the Mumbai North seat with a whopping margin of 4,46,582 votes, defeating nearest rival and sitting MP Sanjay Nirupam of the Congress.

The constituency is dominated by Gujaratis and north Indians, and comprises of Dahisar, Borivali, Kandivali, Charkop and Malad in suburban Mumbai. The MNS did not contest the seat in keeping with its policy of not opposing BJP candidates.

Earlier Nirupam had won by just over 5,000 votes benefiting from a split in anti-Congress votes between BJP and MNS.

Tulu-Kannadiga Gopal C. Shetty hails from Santhoor-Padubidre, Udupi and is served the Mumbai city as a Corporator, Deputy Mayor, BJP City president.

All the dignitaries of Tulu-Kannadiga organisations in Mumbai congratulated Gopal Shetty for creating this history.
