Twenty-six-year-old Sandeep Dhag, who had a criminal past but changed his ways for love, was brutally stabbed to death by five unidentified men last morning near Chacha Nehru Garden, Sai Baba Nagar in Borivli (West).
According to Borivli police, Dhag, a noted criminal with around 20 cases of theft and robbery, had given up his life of crime when he got engaged to a woman last month. He had left his home on Friday around 10.30 am and went to a nearby tea stall.
Now a cable operator, he was having tea and smoking when five men armed with choppers alighted from an auto rickshaw and stabbed him to death and fled before they could be nabbed.
Senior Inspector Narayan Khaira of Borivli police station said, “Two eyewitnesses at the spot said that five men came in an auto and stabbed Dhag and fled. Dhag was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead before admission.
We suspect that members from a rival cable gang may have murdered him. We have no leads as of now but we are investigating the case further.”
Criminal past
Dhag, now a cable operator, was a noted criminal. Several cases were registered against him and he was even externed from Borivli by the police a few months ago.
However, a month ago, Dhag found a woman and fell in love with her and gave up crime for her. Cops said that was aiming to be more stable, as he wished to marry her in the next few months.
