Honest tax payers: Akshay, Amitabh ahead of Salman, Shah Rukh
Actor Akshay Kumar has emerged as Mumbai’s top advance taxpayer for the sixth consecutive year, beating all the big names of the film industry. He deposited Rs 19 crore (Dh12,822606) as the final installment of advance tax this quarter.
Akshay, still basking in the success of ‘Special 26’, had four big hits in 2012 – ‘Khiladi 786’, ‘Housefull2’, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ and ‘Oh My God’. In 2013, he will star in films like ‘Naam Hai Boss’, his home production, ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai 2’ and ‘Ramanna’.
Amitabh Bachchan paid Rs 12 cr (Dh8,098488) followed by Salman Khan (approximately Rs 11 cr), Shah Rukh Khan (Rs 10-plus crore), and then Aamir Khan (Rs 8 crore). In this financial year, the tax payment from Amitabh Bachchan will be Rs 37 crore plus. The cumulative tax paid by the Bachchans, including Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, will be 51 crore (Dh34,418,574).
There is no denying that Katrina Kaif is one of the busiest and highest paid actors in Bollywood. And now, she has also become the highest tax payer among the leading ladies in the industry. Katrina Kaif has apparently paid Rs 4.5 crore as advance tax beating other Bollywood actresses Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
Last year, Katrina gave two blockbusters – ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (2012) with Salman and late filmmaker Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (2012) with Shah Rukh. Both movies did exceptionally well in the terms of box office collection. Both the films crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark at the box office.
Kareena Kapoor Khan is said to have paid Rs 4 crore. Priyanka Chopra paid Rs 2 crore as advance tax.
Paying advance tax has become a recent trend. It has also become a means to measure a star’s success.
