MUMBAI: A 56-year-old New Zealand national allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 17th floor of a five star hotel at Bandra (west) on Monday.

According to the police, the deceased, John Richard Brimley, allegedly had some family dispute and was depressed.

The Bandra police registered a case of accidental death and informed the New Zealand embassy about the incident. The body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem, which would be videotaped though prima facie the police have ruled out foul play.

“The deceased was depressed and he was under anti-depression medication back home. He continued with his treatment in Mumbai after his arrival. We have recorded the statement of the doctor who was treating him here,” said deputy commissioner of police, Pratap Dighavkar.
