Man commits suicide after killing mother, wife, daughter

A 48-year-old businessman killed himself by jumping in front of an electric train, minutes after allegedly murdering his wife, mother and daughter in Pazhavanthangal early on Tuesday morning.

The driver of the first electric train service had noticed a man jumping onto the track between Pazhavanthangal and St. Thomas Mount railway stations around 4.30 a.m.. The driver alerted the staff at St. Thomas Mount railway station, who in turn alerted the Government Railway Police department, Tambaram.

Railway police reached the spot and located a cell phone beside the victim’s body. Following calls made to his recently-dialled numbers, they traced his address.

The police reached his house in Tillaiganga Nagar and found three more bodies.

The victims in the house were identified as his wife, Chitra (40), mother Thangamma (70), and daughter Thamira (10). Sundaresan, the suicide victim, was running a travel agency and had reportedly run into financial trouble. He allegedly attacked his wife, mother and daughter with a knife, before committing suicide. The family is of Sri Lankan Tamil origin. They were living in Pazhavanthangal for the past 10 years.
