A day after al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahari’s video threat to India was released on the Internet, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah downplayed the issue and said there was no threat to the State from the international terror outfit.

However, he said an alert had been sounded across the State and security had been tightened as the Centre had put all States on high alert.

Meanwhile, Home Minister K.J. George claimed that the law and order situation in Karnataka was best in the country.

He said statistics would prove his contention. “Even if we are not able to prevent all crimes, we take immediate action,” he said.

Additional Director-General of Police, Law and Order, Kishore Chandra told The Hindu that the police are always on alert and there was no need for any special security arrangements.
