Bangalore(DHNS) : BJP leaders, at a meeting here on Wednesday, are said to have expressed concern at the performance of the party in the recent Assembly bypolls.
They are learnt to have stressed the need for urgent steps for revival of the party ahead of the panchayat polls next year.
At the meeting of party MPs held in Bangalore, the leaders are said to have expressed concern that the party could not retain the Bellary Rural Assembly seat, which had been its bastion for the last 10 years.
While the party won in Shikaripura Assembly constituency, its victory margin came down from 26,000 in 2013 to 6,430 votes, it was pointed out.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said that the party will soon send teams comprising party functionaries to Bellary and Chikodi-Sadalaga, where it suffered defeat, to assess the ground realities.
Joshi said a ‘BJP Karnataka parliamentary party’ comprising 17 Lok Sabha and four Rajya Sabha members would be formed soon. The panel will regularly meet in New Delhi and Bangalore to discuss issues concerning the State that need to be raised in parliament. It would also hold regular interactions with Union ministers regarding programmes and projects pertaining to Karnataka, he said.
No transparency
Joshi endorsed Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa’s statement that there was no transparency in the functioning of the State government. He said that the State BJP leaders would soon tour the State to expose the “failures” of the government.
BJP national vice-president B S Yeddyurappa rubbished reports flashed by a few Kannada news channels that he had taken some MPs to task during the meeting for not actively campaigning during the bypolls.
“We all worked unitedly. There is a need to strengthen the party and steps will be taken in this direction during the coming days,” he said.
