There are 203 of them and they are worth Rs. 1 crore

The West Division police arrested a gang of motorcycle lifters and seized 203 bikes worth Rs. 1 crore on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Yograj (34), Mohammed Sadiq (21), Mubarak (19), Salman (20) and Irfan (19), all residents of J.J. Nagar.

According to the police, the mastermind, Yograj, made hundreds of fake RC books for the stolen bikes. His four associates used to lift bikes, usually from parking lots, by using duplicate keys.

The police said that Yograj noted down registration numbers of various two-wheelers in different parts of the State. He then collected details of the registration numbers through an online portal of the RTO (B-Extract) to create RC books.

The police said that Yograj visited RTOs in the State and produced the RC books to obtain smartcards for the bikes. He then sold them.

The bikes were recovered from Bangalore Rural, Hassan, Hospet, Chikmagalur, Kolar, Mandya and other parts of the State.
