Bangalore: The Nandagudi police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping and murdering his 19-year-old girlfriend on the outskirts of the city four days ago after she reportedly turned down his marriage proposal.
The accused, identified as Madhu, attempted suicide by slashing his neck with a blade when the police went to arrest him. The accused was rushed to Bowring Hospital where he is said to be recuperating.
According to the police, Madhu, who works as an agent selling raw silk from Dharmapura village in the outskirts of the city, is married and has a six-month-old child. Madhu had an affair with the victim, a second year PU student, for the past three years.
On April 26, the victim went missing from her house in Gundrahalli village in Nandagudi town. Later, on Saturday night her body was found by passers-by. The Nandagudi police who took up investigations tracked down Santosh (25), a resident of Koramangala, based on her call details. Santosh who is a common friend, introduced Madhu to the victim while she was in high school. According to the police, the duo had an affair and, of late, Madhu started pestering the victim to marry him, but she refused as Madhu was already married.
Enraged by this Madhu on the pretext of meeting her took her in an isolated place near her house and allegedly raped her before strangling her to death. He later dumped her body near her farm house and escaped.
