Men occupying ladies’ seats in buses to be fined

Male passengers occupying seats reserved for women in City buses may have to pay for their act. 

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation will conduct a drive to check such instances and such male passengers will have to pay a fine of Rs 100.

The BMTC, in a press release, has requested the passengers not to occupy the seats reserved for female passengers in City buses.

The Corporation will conduct a drive from March 18 to 20 to check such instances. Male passengers found guilty will be liable to pay penalty of Rs 100 under Rule 94 of the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Rules read with Section 177 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

As many as 60 batches of the female checking staff of the BMTC will conduct the drive during which passengers travelling without ticket will also be booked.
Passengers travelling without ticket are liable to pay penalty under Section 178 of MV Act, 1988.

The quantum of penalty is 10 times the ticket fare from the originating point or Rs 500 whichever is less, a BMTC official said.
