Bangalore,(DHNS) :The High Court on Monday ordered issuance of notice to the State government over a petition seeking a CBI probe into illegal quarrying and mining being carried out in the forest areas of Kanakapura by Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, his brother D K Suresh, MP from Bangalore Rural, and their family members.

The petitioners B C Narayanaswamy and A C Shivaraju have contended that Deputy Conservator of Forest Annayya had conducted an inquiry into the illegal mining and submitted a report in 2006 and 2007. The report had named individuals and their companies involved in illegal mining under the forest offences cases.

In another inspection report by the Lokayukta probe team headed by IFS officer Dr U V Singh, there were details of encroachment of forest land, which were used by mining companies owned by Shivakumar and his brother. The petitioners have contended that ever since the reports were submitted, the State government has not taken any action against the offenders.

The petitioners have sought a CBI inquiry into the illegal mining activities. The Bench ordered notices to 14 government officials and posted the next hearing to September 1.
