Bangalore, Aug 3, 2014, (dhns):Unidentified persons entered a room in a deluxe lodge in Chickpet and made away with 4.2 kg gold worth Rs 1.5 crore, that was stored in the locker, on Saturday.
According to the police, Hukum Singh and his brother Sunil Singh, who hail from Mumbai, run Akash Ornaments on the ground floor of Supreme Deluxe lodge on R T Street in Chickpet. They had hired room number 41 for one year, said the police.
According to the police, the Singh brothers would take orders for gold jewellery from various jewellery outlets. They would send the gold to Mumbai for designing and return the designed ornaments to jewellery outlets. The police said that they have an assistant, Vijay Kumar, who used to visit jewellery outlets to receive the orders and return the designed ornaments.
Sunil had gone to Mumbai, while Hukum and Vijay had gone out for work around 3 pm when the incident occurred, police said. A person who had come to meet Hukum noticed that the door of the room was opened and informed Hukum, who rushed to the lodge, said the police.
Hukum found that the gold was missing from the locker and informed the police. The police said that he used to keep the locker key inside a drawer in the room. There were two keys and one of the them was lost about six months ago, they added.
Those who knew about Hukum’s business, the locker and the keys might have committed the theft, said a senior police officer.
There is only one CCTV camera in the lodge. The police have taken the CCTV footage and the guest register of the lodge for investigation.
The police are also questioning the lodge management and room boys. There are definite leads and the police would arrest the suspects soon, DCP (West) Labhu Ram said.
