Two more sexual assaults took place in the last 48 hours, taking the number of such crimes in the district to 15 since June 28.
A disabled girl was raped in a village in Kolar Rural police station limits on Wednesday.
Nareppa, waterman in the area, allegedly took the girl to an eucalyptus grove in the village and raped her. He fled the scene when the victim’s sisters rushed to her rescue. The police nabbed him later.
A case has been registered against the accused after the victim’s father filed a complaint.
In another case, in a village under the same police station, there was an attempt to rape on Thursday. The woman was injured when the accused hit her for resisting the sexual assault. Venkataramanappa, the accused, is absconding, the police said.
Both victims have been admitted to the district SNR Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a bandh was observed in Chickballapur district on Thursday against the growing incidents of crimes against women in the State. CPI(M) district unit and various pro-Kannada outfits gave the bandh call. The protesters staged a roadblock and rail-roko agitation as part of the stir.
