The former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, who took oath as a member of the Legislative Council on Tuesday, took charge as the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House.
Congratulating him, leader of the ruling party in the Upper House and Minister for Information Technology S.R. Patil said a first-time member in the Council becoming the Leader of Opposition was unprecedented. He urged Mr. Eshwarappa to provide a “constructive Opposition” in the Council.
Mr. Eshwarappa promised not to remain as “Opposition for the sake of opposition” and said that all members should strive together to bring Central schemes due to Karnataka.
However, the BJP leader’s comment that Congress leaders had come to power in the State after doing much “circus”, led Veeranna Mattikatti to say that it was a comment not befitting the occasion.
