Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) received nearly 5,000 calls on Monday during the heavy downpour.

According to a release, Bescom helpline received 4,829 complaints from 6.30 p.m. on Monday to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, of which 4,463 were attended to.

The complaints related to tree branches or trees falling on high and low tension (HT and LT) lines (37 trees fell and 28 poles were broken), feeder outages due to HT and LT line jump cut, cable faults, and snapping of conductors. The release added that Bescom has now taken steps to tackle rain-related problems, including having senior officers stationed on the field to guide and support field officers for early restoration of power supply.

Directions have been given to the field officers to use aerial bunched cables for establishing power connectivity wherever immediate stringing of overhead conductor is not possible. Buffer stock of transformers has been kept at the sub-divisions for immediate replacement of transformers that may fail during rain.
