Bangalore: A complaint has been lodged against Jnanapith awardee U R Ananthamurthy with Sanjaynagar police for his controversial remarks against the Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi.

Prakash and Manjunath, members of an organisation named “Nonda Bharathiyaru,” in their complaint stated that the writer is only trying to disturb communal harmony by saying that he would leave the country if Modi became the prime minister, police said. They have sought action against the writer. The complaint has been signed by a few others. There has been no case against Ananthamurthy yet.

The police are contemplating to transfer the complaint to the Election Commission. However, a decision in this regard would be taken after consulting senior officers and experts, said the police.

The writer, however, changed his stand later and said he was emotionally overwhelmed while making the statement. The 81-year-old writer has been provided security after he complained about receiving threat and hate calls last week.
