Siddu to write to PM on medium of study

Bangalore: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will write to the prime minister and chief ministers of all states calling for a discussion on the Supreme Court order on mother tongue as medium of instruction.

“Since it is a problem faced by all states in the country, let the prime minister convene a meeting of all the chief ministers to find an amicable solution to issue,” Siddaramaiah said. here on Friday. He was speaking at an awards function organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture here on Friday.

Writer U R Ananthamurthy, who was honoured with the Basava award, said that huge ‘external pressure’ was stifling the growth of Kannada. He said that even the Supreme Court was against making Kannada as a medium of instruction.

“The State government should come up with a model school in each district which teaches all subjects in Kannada. These schools can also have English as a subject,” he suggested. Pampa award was conferred on Nadoja Kayyara Kanhanna Rai.
