Shikaripur (Shimoga dist): It was a booster dose of a campaign for JD(S) candidate Geetha Shivrajkumar in the constituency on Sunday.
While her star husband Shivrajkumar has been seeking votes for her in the last few days, it was a double delight for her when another Sandalwood heartthrob Upendra, popularly known as Uppi, joined hands with the couple on the campaign trail.
Thousands of fans had gathered on either side of the route of the party’s roadshow.
Addressing his supporters, Uppi said that he had well-wishers in all parties and that he was seeking votes for Geetha, given his warm relationship with Shivrajkumar.
The actor said Geetha had entered politics to serve the society, like her father, the late S Bangarappa. He said that the voters of the constituency should elect a woman MP this time. Shivrajkumar hoped that the tremendous response they were getting during campaigning is translated into votes.
He said that he had not requested any of the actors to campaign for his wife. But, some of them had come on their own, given their affection towards him.
Shivrajkumar said that he expects other actors also to join him in the days to come, to campaign for his wife in Shimoga constituency.
Geetha appealed to the voters to give her a chance to serve the constituency, by electing her to the Lok Sabha with a huge margin.
Uppi delivered popular dialogues from a few of his movies, much to the joy of his fans. He and the ‘hat-trick hero’ also sang a number together from one of Shivrajkumar’s movies. The police had to resort to lathicharge to control the crowd that virtually mobbed the car in which the actors were travelling.
Madhu Bangarappa, Sorab MLA of the JD(S), and other leaders took part in the roadshow.
