Puttenahalli Neighbourhood Lake Improvement Trust (PNLIT), a not-for-profit charitable trust, which has taken up restoration along with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said the lake in J P Nagar contains “clean water and is not a cesspool”.

Referring to the nearly six-month-old photograph carried with the story titled ‘Lakes turn into sewage pools’ published in the Namma Bangalore column on March 26, Arathi Manay, founder trustee of PNLIT, pointed out that local communities and citizen groups have been working towards stopping sewage from entering lakes and one such group is PNLIT.

Usha Rajagopalan, chairperson of the Trust added that members of the Trust met officials of BBMP and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and got them to divert sewage flowing into the lake into an underground drain. “To dilute the sewage component present in the lake, we ensure that the inflow of rainwater into the lake was increased. We are also monitoring the sewage content very closely,” she added.
