Hopping from one political party to another is a common feature during the run-up to elections. Political parties are keen to embrace anybody into their fold, especially actors. Rakshita of Janata Dal (Secular) is no exception as she is the latest addition to the star list of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Ms. Rakshita will be joining the party on Thursday in the presence of party leaders Ananth Kumar and R. Ashok. Sources in the party made it clear that she was not being offered ticket to contest Lok Sabha elections.
According to Ms. Rakshita, JD(S) leaders convinced her to remain in the party. But she refused, as she felt let down by the party that had promised her a seat from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency. “I don’t know; had the JD(S) accommodated me in Mandya, I would have stayed back,” Ms. Rakshita told The Hindu. Who will be a better leader than Narendra Modi, she added.
She refused to be dubbed a party-hopper in view of her brief stint in the BSR Congress and the JD(S) in the last two years. She said it had been a good learning experience for her as she had picked up the nuances of politics.
Ms. Rakshita also clarified that she was not joining the party with any expectation; she would campaign for party candidates.
“My aim is to offer some support to making Mr. Modi the Prime Minister of our country,” she said, adding, “politics is no joke”.She joined the BSR Congress in March 2012, but quit the party in the run-up to the Assembly elections in April 2013 and joined the JD(S) because of the “poor treatment” meted out to her in the BSR Congress.
