Home Minister K J George on Thursday said the government will take a suitable decision on senior Congress MLA and former Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar’s demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the affairs of Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya (SPS), headed by social activist S R Hiremath, after studying the documents provided by him.
Participating in a discussion on the budget proposals in the Legislative Assembly, Ramesh Kumar said he had sufficient documents to prove that SPS had violated provisions of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010.
He alleged that more than one lakh dollars from abroad had been spent for “projects” taken up by SPS which was in violation of FCRA provisions.
Ramesh Kumar charged that foreign money had been utilised by the NGO for fighting court cases pertaining to illegal mining which was against law. “Why is the government and the police quite. I will provide all documents pertaining to Hiremath and his NGO, let the government go through the same and if convinced refer the matter to the CBI,” he said.
The former speaker said chartered accountant appointed by SPS had said he suspected financial fraud by the NGO.
Responding to it, George said: “We will study the documents and if it comes under the State’s police purview, will take suitable action. Otherwise, we will send it to the Central government for its perusal.”
Hiremath had recently released a set of documents to substantiate his allegations
of land grabbing against Kumar.
