6indian touristThe backdrop of choice for Bollywood song sequences and a destination that’s the stuff of most holiday dreams, Switzerland now beckons Indian tourists to enjoy its panoramic mountain views.

Switzerland Tourism, which celebrates the year 2014 as the “year of views”, now encourages visitors to enjoy the country from the best vantages. The Swiss Travel System has launched a “Swiss Peak Pass” where tourists can visit eight peaks by paying a small extra fee on the Swiss Pass.

Switzerland tourism has seen a significant growth in the number of Indian tourists visiting, said Ritu Sharma, Deputy Director, Switzerland Tourism India.

Ms. Sharma added that the country has targeted a 10 per cent growth in visitors to the country this year.

Indians are increasingly choosing to visit with family and stay in apartments, Ms. Sharma said. “Switzerland Tourism is attracting two distinct categories of tourists — families who travel with children and the youth who often travel alone and look to stay in homestays.”

The World Heritage Site Lavaux vineyards, the Chillon Castle, the picturesque cities of Laussanne and Montreax, and scenic train rides are increasingly popular with the Indian tourist, she added.

India also happens to be the largest community on the Switzerland tourism Facebook page, with more than 210,000 followers.
