BANGLORE17Mines and Geology Department Secretary Tushar Giri Nath on Monday said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been asked to investigate the transportation of iron ore, via rail, to Goa.

This, he said, was in addition to investigating the export of iron ore from the seven ports in the State and outside. The Lokayuka, he said, has been handed over investigations into to the export of iron ore below 50,000 metric tonne.

According to Nath, barring CBI investigation into Deccan Mining Company and Lokayukta inquiry into Matha Minerals, the State Cabinet has not recommended any investigations into three other mining firms — Canara Minerals, Latha Mining Company, and K Praveen Chandra Mining Company. However, the previous Mines and Geology Secretary K Amarnarayan, in his report to the State High Level Committee on October 24, 2011, had called for investigation into the five mining firms.

The State government is yet to consider the report’s recommendation despite the passage of two years. Incidentally, while Canara Minerals is owned by sitting Congress MLA Anil Lad, Matha Minerals is registered in the name of BJP MLC V Somanna’s son.

Mines and Geology Department officials said that while investigation into Deccan Mining Company was handed over to CBI on the basis of the Supreme Court directions, inquiry into Matha Minerals was handed over to Lokayukta.
