Mandya, January 7, 2014: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Jayanti Pura in Pandavapura taluk.
The accused, identified as Mahadevu (34), had sexually assaulted the victim on several occasions in the past five months, the police said.
According to the police, the parents of the girl make their living by selling items on trains plying between Bangalore and Mysore.
Hence, they used to leave their home early in the morning leaving behind their children at home.
The girl used to visit Mahadevu’s residence often to meet his daughter, but, the accused used to sexually assault her, the police said.
Mahadevu had been threatening the girl with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to others. However, on Monday the victim revealed that she had been sexually assaulted.
Later, the girl’s parents filed a complaint with the Pandavapura police. The police have registered a case and launched a hunt for Mahadevu, who is absconding.
