LPG, auto gas prices up

BANGALORE, January 2, 2014: Playing spoilsport in the beginning of the New Year, the Union government on Wednesday announced a hike in the prices of autorickshaw gas and non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.

Indian Oil Corporation officials said auto gas will now cost Rs. 65.53 in the State as against Rs. 54.40 earlier. A commercial LPG cylinder (19 kg) will cost Rs. 2,219.50 as against Rs. 1,834.50 earlier.

For those who exceed the nine-cylinder per year limit, a non-subsidised cylinder (14.2 kg) will cost Rs. 1,267 as compared to Rs. 1,044.50 earlier.

However, IOC officials maintained, the cost of a subsidised LPG cylinder will continue to be Rs. 425.

Autorickshaw drivers have called for an all-union meeting on Thursday and are planning a protest against the hike on Monday, said B Chandrashekar, general secretary, Karnataka Rajiv Gandhi Auto Taxi Chalakara Vedike.
