Mysore temple to distribute 2 lakh ladoos on New Year

Mysore, December 29, 2013: The Sri Yoganarasimhaswamy temple authorities here will distribute over two lakh ladoos on January 1 to commemorate the beginning of the New Year.

Fifty cooks have been roped in to prepare the sweet on the temple premises and they are on the job since December 23.

The temple authorities started the practice of distributing Tirupati style ladoos on New Year day in 1994. As many as 1,000 ladoos were distributed that year.

As many as 1,500 ladoos weighing 1.5 kg each, 20,000 ladoos weighing 600 gm each and two lakh ladoos weighing 100 gm each are being prepared this year.

It will be distributed among devotees and visitors irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

Hygienic conditions

The ladoo manufacturing is being taken up under hygienic conditions in the temple, said a press release. Thirty-five quintals of gram flour, 70 quintals of sugar, 200 tins of oil, 30 tonnes of cashew, 100 kg of resin, 35 kg of almond nuts, 150 kg of diamond sugar, 200 kg boora sugar, 15 kg each of pista and cardamom, 25 kg of ‘jakai’ and ‘japatre’, four kg of ‘pache karpoora’ and 40 kg of cloves are being used. According to N. Srinivasan, the administrator of the temple, prayers will be offered for world peace at the temple on January 1.

There would be a special ‘puja’ at 6 a.m. using ‘tomale’ brought from the Sriranga temple, apart from ‘swarnapushpa sahasranamarchane’ to Sri Yoganarasimhaswamy.
