Lokayukta raids unearth assets worth Rs 15.5 crore

Bangalore, December 20, 2012, DHNS: Lokayukta Police on Friday carried out raids on 32 premises belonging to 10 government officials in different parts of the State and unearthed illegal assets worth over Rs 15.5 crore.

The raids were conducted in Bangalore, Bellary, Chitradurga, Dharwad, Karwar, Koppal, Mandya, Tumkur, and Udupi in Karnataka, and Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.When the officials were conducting the raids on the premises of Narendra Kumar, Surveyor, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), “they noticed him throwing a bunch of keys outside the window. They were keys of his cars. When searched, they found 15 files belonging to the BDA and another 50 to 60 files related to him,” said Lokayukta Additional Director General of Police H N Sathyanarayana Rao.

The officials discovered immovable properties belonging to Narendra Kumar to the tune of Rs 4.5 crore comprising a guesthouse with swimming pool,  a building, an under-construction building and two residential plots in Sahakarnagar in Bangalore, a commercial complex, a building, two residential plots in Kolar and three shops in Thanisandra in Bangalore. The value of the movable properties is estimated at Rs 62.5 lakh, which include three cars, household articles, gold and silver ornaments and bank balance. A locker belonging to him is yet to be searched. The total percentage of disproportionate assets (DA) is 171.17.

Raids were conducted on the premises of Subramanyam Reddy, Assistant Engineer, Office of Assistant Director, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited in Bellary, and Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.

The officials found immovable properties worth Rs 3.3 crore which comprise two residential plots and a house in Bellary. One of the plots is registered in the name of Sharada, his wife. In Prakasam, three sites and a portion of a building ‘Sharada Towers’ was found. The movable properties traced were worth Rs 23.2 lakh. The DA per cent calculated was 136.49.

Another government official Antony Kunjanath, Junior Engineer, Hescom, Sirsi, had immovable properties such as residential plots, lands and factory with machines and raw material, all worth Rs 1.13 crore. Among movable properties he had three cars, an earthmover, a tipper lorry, three jeeps and a two-wheeler along with photocopy machines, computers and printers worth Rs 53 lakh. Gold, silver ornaments and a cash deposit of Rs 36,000 were also found. His DA was the highest ranging up to 538.18 per cent.

Narayana Karvi, Assistant Executive Engineer, Port & Fisheries Department, Udupi Sub-Division, has houses, lands and residential plots adding up to Rs 79 lakh; two fishing boats in his son’s name, car and two motorbikes, gold and silver ornaments and accounts in various banks which have to be verified. The total amount of movable properties is Rs 1.75 crore. The DA ranges up to 133.5 per cent.

Another government official raided was R Prasanna Kumar, Assessor, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. Officials unearthed immovable properties estimated at Rs 58 lakh. Movable properties worth Rs 19 lakh were found. His DA ranges up to 122.84 per cent.

Hard cash

Officials also found hard cash of Rs 43 lakh in the house of M M Umesh, Chief Executive Officer of VSSN Society. They unearthed two houses and two agricultural lands worth Rs 70 lakh.

Movable properties worth Rs 55 lakh were discovered. Several bank accounts in various banks are yet to be verified. The DA ranges up to 268.055 per cent.

Dr V L Nandish, a professor and head of a surgery department in Mandya Government Medical College, was also under the scanner of the Lokayukta officials who unearthed movable properties worth Rs 65 lakh and immovable properties worth Rs 1.1 crore. Another government servant Basvaraj Bandivaddar, Assistant Engineer with the Public Works Department, was found possessing immovable properties such as houses, lands and residential plot worth Rs 99 lakh, and movable properties worth Rs 52 lakh. His DA is 194.81 per cent.

In Dharwad, Manjunatha, Deputy Tahsildar, Nada Kacheri, Kundagol Taluk, was found with movable properties worth Rs 50 lakh which comprises several acres of lands and residential plots. Movable properties unearthed were worth around Rs 12 lakh. K G Mudalagiriyappa, Project Manger, Nirmiti Kendra, Chitradurga, had immovable properties worth Rs 72. 5 lakh and movable properties worth Rs 34 lakh.
