Bangalore, December 11: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed shock over the untimely death of scion of the erstwhile Mysore royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar here on Tuesday.
Wadiyar had actively participated in the last Dasara celebrations in Mysore and was recently elected president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, he said in a message.
Wadiyar, a former MP, had chalked out several plans for the KSCA for the benefit of cricketers.
The four-time MP was respected widely by the people of Mysore, Mr. Siddaramaiah said.
Shocked: Krishna
The former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has said, “I am extremely shocked and pained at the sudden and untimely demise of Wadiyar. He was one of the most respected personalities who excelled in politics and sports, apart from being a great human being. His death is a great loss to our State”.
Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya, MP and BJP General Secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara and other leaders of the Congress and the Janata Dal(S) have expressed condolences.
Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor B.S. Satyanarayana also mourned the death of Wadiyar.
BJP mourns
The Bharatiya Janata Party has mourned the death of Wadiyar.
In a condolence message, BJP State president Pralhad Joshi recalled thatWadiyar had been elected to the Lok Sabha four times and had been recently elected as president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
The former Chief Minister and Karnataka Janata Paksha State president B.S. Yeddyurappa recalled that Wadiyar had obtained a post-graduate degree in political science from Mysore University.
