Mysore, December 11: Political leaders have condoled the sudden demise of Wadiyar.
Mysore-Kodagu Member of Parliament A.H. Vishwanath has, in a message here, said that he was shocked at the death of Wadiyar who had distinguished himself as a ruler of a princely State, a politician and a sports lover.
His contribution to the field of culture too was immense, Mr. Vishwanath said.
Mysore district in-charge and Revenue Minister V. Srinivas Prasad said Wadiyar’s death had left a void and recalled his contributions to the fields of art, culture, sports and politics.
His pro-people programmes were exemplary, Mr. Prasad said in a statement.
The former Mysore district in-charge Minister and BJP leader S.A. Ramdas expressed grief recalled the late ruler as a generous person.
He had offered suggestions to him (Mr. Ramdas) on conducting the Dasara festivities during his tenure as the district in-charge Minister. Wadiyar had nursed a dream to convert the “Madhu Vana”, where the tombs of the former rulers of Yadu dynasty are located here, into a national memorial, Mr. Ramdas stated.
The demise of Wadiyar was an irreparable loss to the State, he added.
Minister for Cooperation and Chamarajanagar in-charge H.S. Mahadeva Prasad expressed grief and said that Wadiyar had initiated several welfare programmes for the development of people as a Lok Sabha member.
The Chamarajanagar District Yuva Sammelan (youth festival) scheduled to be held at the J.H. Patel Auditorium on Wednesday has beenpostponed to pay respectsto the former member of the Mysore royal family.
The Mysore district administration has declared holiday for government offices and educational institutions in the district on Wednesday. Chamarajanagar district too would follow suit, a release said.
Shops down shutters
Reports of several shops and commercial establishments downing shutters were received from several localities here in the evening.
The University of Mysore authorities have postponed the examinations slated for December 11 as a mark of respect to the ruler.
The M.Sc examinations under the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) scheduled for December 11 and 12 have been postponed toDecember 15 and 16, respectively.
The Hoteliers Association has decided to close down their establishments on Wednesday to pay respects to Wadiyar.
