Bangalore, December 11: Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake on Tuesday said that a detailed project report (DPR) for implementing suburban railway system in Bangalore has been submitted to the Railway Ministry.
He told presspersons that the project is proposed to be implemented in three phases: Bangalore-Mandya, Bangalore-Bangarpet and Bangalore-Tumkur lines.
The facility that was aimed at easing the traffic congestion in and around Bangalore would be extended to Doddaballapur and Chickballapur in the second phase. “The first phase of the project will be implemented at a cost of Rs. 8,500 crore. The project cost will be shared equally by the State and Union governments,” he said.
According to the Minister Sorake, the Railway Ministry will submit the project report to the Planning Commission and in all likelihood the project will be included in the Railway Budget to be presented in February.
To a query on the implementation of Section 94 CC of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, Mr. Sorake said that October 19, 2013 was the cut off date for regularisation of unauthorised constructions. Norms for regularisation had been drafted and notification in that regard would be issued shortly. “The process of implementation will commence from the January 2014. Section 94 CC would be applicable only to areas coming under the jurisdiction of the corporation and a committee headed by the corporation Commissioner had been authorised to receive applications for regularising unauthorised construction on government land. The revenue thus collected would be used for development of local areas, he added.

Mr. Sorake spoke about alleged irregularities in Mandya and Ramanagaram urban development authorities, he said that the land mafia was exploiting the situation.
