Bangalore, Dec 8, 2013, DHNS: Peenya police have arrested an Indian Air Force vigilance officer Pankaj Kumar, 32, for allegedly harassing his wife for dowry, because of which she reportedly committed suicide.
The victim, Thammi Kumari, 32, was found hanging at her apartment at the Indian Air Force residential complex on Hesaraghatta Road on December 4. Police had registered a case of unnatural death following a complaint by R K Reddy, a senior officer in the chief office of the Indian Air Force.
On December 6, Thammi Kumari’s brother Rakesh Roshan arrived in the City and lodged a complaint of dowry harassment against Pankaj Kumar. He accused the latter of harassing Thammi for dowry. Police arrested the officer based on a complaint by the victim’s brother, police said. Rakesh also told the police that Pankaj and his parents constantly harassed his sister for dowry.
Pankaj Kumar hails from Bihar and married Thammi Kumari in 2004. The couple have two children Om Singh and Prarthana Singh.
