BANGALORE: A first division clerk in the city police commissioner’s office allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan hook at his quarters in Central Township near HAL on Tuesday.

Ravi Kumar, 34, is suspected to have taken the extreme step as he was facing pressure from people whom he owed between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh for cricket betting.

“He was heavily into gambling and had lost huge sums of money. Several people had lent him money and they were pestering him to return it. Unable to bear it, he hanged himself around 2am when his wife Roopa and two minor children were sleeping. Roopa woke up in the morning and found him hanging,” a police officer said.
