BELGAUM: The opposition parties in Karnataka upper house demanded the government to initiate action against Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) MLA Sambhaji Patil for his anti-Karnataka remarks on Monday.

Tara Anuradha (BJP), who raised the issue in the legislative council, said pro-Kannada activists are being detained and booked for their protest, but nothing has been done against Patil’s “irresponsible anti-Karnataka statement”.

Opposition leader DV Sadananda Gowda demanded there should be no discussion or debate over the issue and the government must immediately take action againstthe MLA.

Basavaraj Horatti (JDS) demanded to initiate criminal action. Bharathi Shetty and Doddarange Gowda (both BJP), said that the MES members had not only insulted the government but also hurt the pride of Karnataka. JD(S) members staged a walk out.

House leader SR Patil said that the government was exploring the legalities before booking a case against him. “Soon home minister will inform the House about what action the government has decided to initiate against the MLA,” he said.
