64 taluks declared drought hit

DROUGHT

Bangalore, Nov 17, 2013, DHNS: The State government has officially declared 64 taluks in 22 districts as drought-hit, where relief works in terms of providing water and employment would be taken up.

The decision to give the drought status was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee on October 30.

Deficiency in rains and moisture inadequacy has made the government to declare the 64 taluks as drought affected. In these taluks, measures like emergent supply of drinking water, works under employment guarantee schemes and protection of livestock will be taken up.

Some of the taluks declared drought hit are Bangalore South, Kanakapura, Magadi, Ramanagar, Bangarpet, Mulbagal, Srinivaspur, Gubbi, Molakalmur, Jagalur, Gundlupet, Siruguppa, Gangavati, Yadgir, Gokak, Khanapur, Bilagi, Bijapur, Haveri, Dharwad, Hubli, Kalaghatagi, Belur and Haliyal.
