Five killed, five injured in accident

HUBLI, October 31:  Five persons including a 10-year-old boy and two women were killed and five injured in an accident involving a multi-utility vehicle and public transport bus on National Highway 63 at Arera bridge near Annigeri in Dharwad district on Thursday.

The victims were returning to Koppal after attending a marriage at Goa. Their names have been given as Zarin Mehboobsab Gadag (35), Sharfun Usman Addevale (45), Aslam Goususab Karjagi (28), Tohid Rafiq Maniyar (10) and driver of the vehicle Mohammed Ali Ontihalli (35), all residents of Koppal and relatives.

According to police the accident took place when the driver of the vehicle lost control and collided head-on with the bus belonging to the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) that was proceeding to Hubli from Gadag.

After initial treatment at the government hospital in Annigeri, the injured persons were shifted to KIMS Hospitali in Hubli.

Superintendent of Police, Dharwad, B.S. Lokeshkumar, Divisional Controller of Hubli Division of NWKRTC A.S.R. Namazi and others visited the spot and monitored the relief operations. The Annigeri Police have registered a case.

Mr. Lokeshkumar said that among the injured only one person had suffered limb fractures and the rest sustained minor injuries. They are recuperating in KIMS Hospital. Mr. Namazi said no one travelling in the bus was injured.
