Pustaka Parishe: where you can take home a book free

BANGALORE, October 25:  The sixth edition of the annual national book fair, Pustaka Parishe, organised by Srushti Ventures (SV), will be held here on Sunday. The event offers book lovers an opportunity to take home a book free of cost from a collection of around 20 lakh books in Kannada, English and other languages.

‘Pustaka Parishe’ will be held at National College Grounds, Basavangudi, from 9 am to 9.30 pm.

It will be inaugurated by Jnanpith award winner U.R. Ananthamurthy and will feature a children’s book fair and cultural and literary programmes.

Students will be allowed to choose three books of their choice.

Former chairman of Kannada Book Authority and honorary chairman of SV, Siddalingaiah, said the book fair will help improve reading habits among people.

Vice-president of SV Padmashree Murthy said the programme also features Namma Sarakara — Namma Ilake where various government departments will be introduced to public.

Anybody can become a volunteer at the mela by donating, buying new or old books or referring new donors, said another vice-president Nagashree M.N.
