Bangalore, October 23:  There will be some respite for motorists travelling between Yeshwanthpur and Malleswaram as the much delayed C.N.R. Rao underpass connecting the two areas will be opened by November 15.

The announcement was made by city Mayor B.S. Sathyanarayana, who inspected the progress of work, on Tuesday. The two carriageways in the underpass will be opened after the concreting work is completed.

However, the section connecting C.N.R. Rao junction and Mekhri Circle may take longer to be opened for traffic.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued the work order for the project on May 21, 2008. Though the Rs. 31.14-crore project, which was taken up on January 21, 2010, was to be completed within 10 months, it is far from complete even three years later. Last year, vehicles were finally allowed to pass along one side of the underpass.

“The progress of the work will be reviewed every week. The contractors have been warned against delaying the work further,” Mr. Sathyanarayana said.

Later, the Mayor and a team of BBMP councillors inspected Namma Metro work at Mahalakshmi Layout. They noted that vehicles were being parked inside a park near the Mysore Sandal Soap Factory Circle. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. authorities have been directed to restore the park and build a compound wall around it within 15 days.
