BANGALORE, October 17: The CBI has finally managed to arrest former BJP Tourism Minister and party MLA from Vijayanagar, Anand Singh, who has been absconding since September 20.
Mr. Anand, who was reportedly hiding in Singapore, was taken directly to the government-run Bowring Hospital after he was arrested at the immigration counter of the Bangalore International Airport early on Thursday. After the check-up he was brought to the CBI office on Bellary road. According to CBI sources, he will be produced in open court when it convenes for the post-lunch session.
Mr. Anand, was earlier listed as a witness in the illegal mining investigations. But in the course of the investigation, the CBI began to get evidence to show that his company Vaishnavi Minerals too had supplied illicit ore to two companies. When he was summoned for questioning, Mr. Anand fled to Singapore from where he filed an anticipatory bail application. The CBI court rejected his application, turning him into a wanted person.
